Micro wedding elopement in the Texas Hill Country

You’ve done the math. You’ve priced the venues, the catering, the flowers, the photography, the DJ, the open bar, the rehearsal dinner, the favors. You’ve pictured 150 people watching you try to cut a cake while a photographer shouts directions.

And somewhere in all of that, the actual point — the two of you, making a promise — got buried under a $40,000 production.

Micro weddings and elopements exist for the couples who’d rather skip all that. Not because they don’t want to celebrate — but because they want to celebrate well. With the people who matter most, in a place that actually means something, without spending the rest of the year paying it off.

The Texas Hill Country is one of the best places in the country to do exactly that. And The Yurtopian, on 46 acres outside Dripping Springs, is where a lot of couples are choosing to make it happen.

What Is a Micro Wedding, Exactly?

A micro wedding is typically defined as a ceremony with 30 guests or fewer — though many couples go even smaller, with just immediate family or a handful of close friends. Elopements take it further still: just the two of you (plus an officiant), or perhaps a witness or two. There are several wedding planners in the area that specialize in helping couples plan an elopement or micro wedding, such as Elope in Austin and VOW Micro Weddings.

What they have in common is intentionality. Every detail gets more attention when there are fewer moving parts. The vows mean more when the room is full of people who actually know you. The dinner is better when it’s 12 people around a table instead of 150 at assigned seats.

And from a financial standpoint, the math is hard to argue with. The average American wedding now costs over $30,000. A micro wedding at a stunning Hill Country venue, with a great photographer and a chef-prepared dinner, can come in at a fraction of that — leaving real money for a honeymoon, a down payment, or simply starting your marriage without debt. It’s the perfect answer to a budget wedding in the Texas Hill Country!

Why the Texas Hill Country?

Dripping Springs calls itself the Wedding Capital of Texas, and it’s not an empty claim — there are over 35 wedding venues within a 15-mile radius. What makes the Hill Country specifically right for an intimate ceremony is the landscape: rolling limestone hills, cedar and oak canopy, wide open sky, and sunsets that genuinely look like someone turned up the saturation.

It’s also incredibly practical. Dripping Springs is barely 60 min from downtown Austin, which means your guests can fly into Austin-Bergstrom, drive 35 minutes west, and feel like they’ve landed in a different world. For couples coming from San Antonio, it’s a little over an hour.

And for couples who want to elope privately with zero logistics — you can pull it off here in a single day and spend the night in a hot tub under the Milky Way.

Micro Wedding & Elopement at The Yurtopian

The Yurtopian’s Dripping Springs location wasn’t designed as a traditional wedding venue — and that’s exactly what makes it work so well for intimate ceremonies.

The property sits on 46 private acres of Hill Country terrain, with a wet-weather creek, wide hill views, and a central lodge that can accommodate both indoor and outdoor gatherings. The lodge can be configured for ceremonies, dinners, and receptions, while the outdoor spaces provide a natural Hill Country backdrop without the manicured-garden feel of a traditional venue.

For the couple, accommodations don’t get more romantic: each of the 10 Mongolian yurts on the property features a king-size bed, hardwood floors, hand-painted décor, a private hot tub, fire pit, rooftop deck, and hammock. Your wedding night is already taken care of. And your guests? They can book adjacent yurts and wake up the next morning to Hill Country views and coffee on their own private decks.

That last part is something no hotel block can replicate.

What a Day Could Look Like

For couples imagining what a Yurtopian elopement or micro wedding might actually feel like, here’s one version of a perfect day:

The Night Before: Arrive and check into your yurt. Take your time. No schedule yet. Reconnect with your partner and soak in the hot tub under the stars before the big day tomorrow.

Morning: Meet your family and friends mid-morning for a breakfast in town or start decorating up at the lodge. Don’t worry – we can help as much or as little as you’d like and we have lots of suggestions for vendors in the area if you want to have hair and makeup, floral design, catering, and photographers. If you wanna keep it really relaxed, schedule a couples massage for the morning of your wedding at our spa yurt.

Late Afternoon: A short ceremony at sunset — on the hill with a view, or in the cedar grove, or in the lodge with candles and fairy lights. Your people gathered close. Vows that mean something.

Evening: Dinner around a long table — catered or chef-prepared, wine from Hawk’s Shadow Winery next door, the sky going dark above the Hill Country.

After dinner: Friends and family gather around the fire pit. The hot tub. The stars — and Dripping Springs is a certified Dark Sky Community, so there are a lot of them!

Morning after: Coffee on the private deck. No checkout rush. No venue breakdown crew. Just the Hill Country and the two of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests can a Yurtopian micro wedding accommodate?

Our event spaces work best for ceremonies and gatherings of up to 30 guests. For larger groups, the full property buyout (all 10 yurts plus the lodge) can accommodate more people. You can contact our office to discuss the specific needs of your event, and we’ll be happy to brainstorm ideas!

Can our guests stay on the property?

Yes — and this is one of the biggest advantages of The Yurtopian as a venue. Guests can book individual yurts for the night, so everyone wakes up together on the property the next morning. No one has to drive home after the celebration.

Do you work with outside vendors?

Absolutely. We have relationships with local officiants, photographers, florists, and caterers, and we’re happy to make recommendations. You’re also welcome to bring your own preferred vendors. We often collaborate with Elope Austin, but we’re happy to work with you directly yourself or you can introduce to another wedding planner organization.

Is The Yurtopian only available for elopements/weddings at Dripping Springs?

Yes — our elopement and micro wedding packages are offered at our Dripping Springs location, which has the event spaces and lodge to support a ceremony and reception. Wimberley doesn’t have a common area to accommodate an event.

What’s the difference between an elopement package and a micro wedding package?

Generally, an elopement is just the two of you (plus an officiant and photographer), while a micro wedding involves a small guest list. We can accommodate both — reach out, and we’ll walk you through the options.

How far in advance should we book?

Weekend dates — especially spring and fall — book out quickly. We recommend reaching out at least 3–6 months in advance for weekend ceremonies. Weekday elopements often have more flexibility. We can often accommodate a weekday wedding with just a few days notice!

Thinking about it? Start here for package details, or send us a message and tell us what you’re envisioning. We love helping couples pull this off.
